The News Reality is a news service for young readers in India. This page explains what we collect when you join the launch list, why, and what you can ask us to do. We follow the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 of India.

What we collect

Your email address or mobile number, whichever you enter.
The language you were reading (English or Hindi).
The consent wording you agreed to, and the time you agreed.
A one-way scrambled (hashed) form of your IP address, and your browser's user-agent text. We use these to stop spam and repeat sign-ups. We cannot turn the hash back into your IP address.

Why we collect it

To message you on launch day and, if you agreed, to send the daily brief.
To keep a record that you consented, as the law requires.
To protect the form from abuse.

We do not sell your details and we do not use them for anything else.

Other things this page loads

Fonts from Google Fonts.
Weather and air-quality numbers from Open-Meteo.com. Your browser contacts these services directly, so they may see your IP address.
Our hosting provider and Cloudflare may log technical details such as your IP address when serving the page.

The page does not use advertising or tracking cookies.

How long we keep it

Until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, or until twelve months after the daily brief stops, whichever is earlier.

Your rights

You can ask us to show you what we hold, correct it, delete it, or stop messaging you. You can also withdraw your consent at any time. Write to contact@thenewsreality.com from the address or number you signed up with. We will reply within 7 days.

Complaints

If you are not happy with our reply, write to the same address with the subject "Grievance" and we will respond within 15 days. You may also complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date above. If a change affects how we use your details, we will ask for your consent again.
